Whine and no power in your Sentra: dried-out capacitors in the TCM
A dealer quotes $3,800 to $4,500 to replace a Nissan Sentra's CVT outright, with towing and weeks of downtime, the moment the scanner throws a solenoid code. What almost never gets verified is whether the solenoid is failing or simply receiving a distorted command. Those are two different problems with prices that aren't remotely alike.

Replacing the transmission for an electrical fault
When the shop reads "solenoid A performance", the automatic verdict is that the valve body is packed with metal debris or the oil pump destroyed itself. The detail that gets missed is that the mechanical solenoid is perfectly fine: what's distorted is the electrical signal telling it how much pressure to apply. And if the transmission gets replaced while reusing the same fatigued TCM, the symptom comes back.
Complete transmission
All the mechanical hardware gets replaced over a code that only says pressure never reached its target. If the old TCM goes back onto the new box, the signal is still dirty and the whine and slipping return.
Look at the PWM waveform
A high-frequency scope on the signal leaving the module, with inductive loads equivalent to the Jatco solenoids. Distortion and ripple voltage are visible directly, and they get corrected on the board.
Why the heat dries out the capacitors
On the 1.8L Sentra and the Versa, the Jatco JF015E depends on an external TCM mounted near the battery or in the engine bay. That location exposes the board to temperatures that routinely pass 180 °F in summer. The solenoids that vary pressure on the conical pulleys don't run on constant voltage: the TCM drives them with pulse width modulation, and for them to hold an exact pressure that current has to arrive clean.
That's where the defect is. The TCM uses surface-mount electrolytic capacitors to filter alternator noise and stabilize the solenoid voltage rail. Heat dehydrates the liquid electrolyte: capacitance collapses, equivalent series resistance climbs, and the capacitor stops filtering. The rail gets contaminated with high-frequency spikes, the PWM signal arrives distorted, the valves vibrate out of time — that's the whine you hear — and pressure falls. Everything else is downstream of that.

Nissan Sentra (2013-2019)
The most affected platform. It starts with light shudder under braking and escalates to complete loss of acceleration.
Nissan Versa and Versa Note (2012-2019)
Severe low-speed judder and limp-mode lockouts, wrongly blamed on engine or spark plug faults.
Nissan Rogue Sport and Juke
Heavier platforms, where the pressure loss caused by PWM distortion burns the forward clutch packs quickly if the module isn't addressed in time.
Chevrolet Spark (2014-2021)
Runs exactly the same Jatco transmission under a GM code. The TCM suffers the same capacitor degradation and throws line pressure solenoid codes.
How we repair it

We connect the TCM to the simulator, inject inductive loads equivalent to the Jatco solenoids, and read the PWM waveform distortion and ripple level on a scope.

Using controlled heat profiles we desolder the dehydrated capacitors and any MOSFETs that took overcurrent stress.

Solid-state upgrade
We fit solid polymer capacitors rated to 125 °C with ultra-low ESR. They're immune to thermal dehydration, so the filtering doesn't degrade with heat again.

Data preserved
Repairing your original hardware keeps the adaptive wear tables, the pressure calibration and the VIN intact.
Plug in the harness and that's it: the transmission regains exact pressure control, the whine disappears and acceleration is linear again, with no online programming.
