The immobilizer system is the vehicle's security core: it stops the engine from starting if it doesn't recognize the correct key. When you lose every key, when a new key won't "take," or when the module fails from an electronic fault, the car simply won't start — even with a perfectly good engine.

Cost varies enormously by system, and it's worth knowing before you call anyone. Programming a basic transponder or remote runs on the order of $50 to $150; a smart key with push-button start, $100 to $350; and on European or high-security brands the programming alone can run $250 to $500 or more. The expensive scenario is total loss: through a locksmith, an all-keys-lost job using EEPROM/OBD access runs around $200 to $500, while at the dealer, reflashing the BCM or immobilizer runs $400 to $1,000 — plus $100 to $250 for a tow, since the vehicle can't be driven. That's where our mobile unit changes the equation.

How we work

We clone and program keys and immobilizers directly, without going through the dealer's process (and cost), which in many cases requires towing the car and waiting days for a key with a security code. If the immobilizer module is physically damaged, we repair it rather than replace it.

EIS/EZS cloning and wholesale service for shops

Beyond serving the car owner directly, we offer immobilizer module (EIS/EZS) cloning as a wholesale B2B service for shops and locksmiths without the in-house technical capability — we don't compete with mobile locksmiths who already cover key programming, we complement them.

System by system: the technical detail

European brands (Mercedes-Benz, BMW, VAG group)

Mercedes EIS/EZS: we clone by reading the original EIS's EEPROM and FLASH memory and writing it byte by byte to the replacement unit — the car recognizes it as the original, with no key re-pairing. We work the W209/W211/W212 especially. On BMW and MINI we program CAS3, CAS4, FEM and BDC platforms, and on the VAG group (VW, Audi, Porsche) we extract data (CS/MAC/PIN) on the MQB architecture to generate smart keys from scratch in total-loss cases — a growing service for imported European vehicles in Florida.

Toyota/Lexus and Ford

Toyota/Lexus Smart Key: the 128-bit AES chip uses a seed that rotates on every start (rolling code), not a fixed code — which is why cloning a key incorrectly leaves it completely dead, not merely "unlinked." Ford PATS: an all-keys-lost case requires a direct security access session with the PCM (seed plus calculated response), with a 10 to 12 minute anti-scan timer that has to run uninterrupted.

GM and Honda/Acura

GM Passlock: the relearn runs with the key in the ON position for about 10-11 minutes, and on trucks the cycle may need repeating up to 3 times with a well-charged battery; VATS (older) uses a physical resistor in the key that the module learns only once — if every VATS key is lost, the module has to be reprogrammed. Honda/Acura: on some older models (e.g. Prelude 1997-2001, Acura CL/TL/RL 3.5L) the key code lives in the engine ECU itself, not only in the immobilizer.

Lost every key: what a "reseed" is

When every key is lost ("all keys lost"), the job is more complex than programming a spare: the system needs a full immobilizer reseed, not just one more key added to the existing list. We set realistic time expectations for this specific case from the first conversation.

The technical difference is simple: with a working key, the system uses that key to authorize adding a new one in seconds. With no working key at all, we have to go directly into the module — through electronic security access (seed and response) or, when that path isn't available, by reading and writing the module's EEPROM memory on the bench. It's a slower procedure and, on some systems, allows only one safe attempt — which is why we don't rush the diagnosis on an all-keys-lost job.

BMW: CAS4, FEM and BDC

On BMW 1 Series (F20), 3 Series (F30) and across the G generation (G20, G30, G05), the security electronics evolved from CAS4/CAS4+ to FEM (Front Electronic Module) and, more recently, to BDC2/BDC3. The most common failures in these modules come from water ingress around the A-pillar, voltage spikes during a battery change, or short circuits in the headlight circuit that damage the board. The repair demands precision handling of the 95128/95256 memory chips, and to preserve the vehicle's entire CAN network during the process we use a dedicated bench test platform wired directly to the FEM, the instrument cluster and the transmission.

Radio frequency matters too, and it's the number one reason a new key won't sync: CAS4 and FEM platforms through 2016 operate at 868 MHz (Continental or HUF keys), while the newer BDC architecture moved to 434 MHz (Hella). Getting the frequency wrong leaves the key dead even when the chip is correct — which is why we always confirm the module's exact generation before programming.

Component Protection: when the vehicle defends itself

When you install a used engine, comfort or body module — especially on BMW, Audi and other brands with Component Protection — the vehicle may refuse to start or disable entire functions (climate control, radio) until it confirms the modules are communicating legitimately. It's one of the most frequent surprises for anyone who buys a second-hand part expecting it to be plug and play. We resolve it by realigning the MAC bytes between the ECU, the TCU and the BCM, so the replacement part merges undetectably with the vehicle's chassis and VIN — a mandatory step in any repair involving used modules.

Land Rover and Jaguar: KVM and RFA modules

On Land Rover Evoque, Discovery and Range Rover Sport models, we recover the KVM and RFA security modules when proximity key (keyless) access stops responding. As with BMW, it's a fault that normally doesn't require replacing the entire access system, even though that's the first thing quoted at the dealer.

Frequently asked questions

I lost all my keys — do I have to tow the car to you?

Not necessarily, and that's exactly the expense worth avoiding: a tow adds $100 to $250 before anyone touches the vehicle. Depending on the severity and your location, we dispatch our mobile unit to work on site, or arrange for your shop to remove the module and send it by courier.

Why does the dealer charge so much for an all-keys-lost job?

Because the official procedure involves reflashing the BCM or immobilizer module, which runs $400 to $1,000 at the dealer, plus the tow and the wait for a service opening. We go directly into the module through cryptographic access or bench EEPROM reading, which solves the same problem without depending on the brand's online network.

Can you program a new key I bought online?

Yes, as long as the chip and the frequency (MHz) are exactly compatible with your vehicle's system — we verify the part number and the key's markings before starting work, so you're not charged for the wrong part.

How long does an all-keys-lost reseed take?

Longer than programming a spare, because it requires electronic security access to the module — normally 1 to 3 business days when done in the lab. We give you a realistic estimate as soon as we assess your case.
