Why Miami's heat and humidity hit electronic modules harder

If it feels like electronic modules fail more often in Miami than elsewhere, it's not just perception — the local climate speeds up two concrete physical processes: corrosion and solder fatigue.
Heat + humidity = thermal stress cycles
Extreme heat combined with constant humidity puts a module's solder joints through sharper expansion-and-contraction cycles than in dry climates. Over time, that weakens the solder until it fails — the same mechanism we see repeated in Sprinter/EcoDiesel PCMs, FCA TIPMs, and infotainment modules.
Humidity as a corrosion accelerant
Ambient humidity, with no flooding needed, seeps into poorly sealed connectors over the years. On a heavily used vehicle (fleet, delivery), that combines with more vibration cycles and engine heat.
Which services this affects most
- PCMs on heavily used Sprinter vans and EcoDiesel engines
- TIPMs on Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler/RAM (relay soldered with no socket)
- Uconnect and Cadillac CUE screens (heat-accelerated delamination)
- Any module exposed to water during rainy or hurricane season
