What it really costs to replace your Prius battery (and when you DON'T need to)

19 Jul 20264 min read

"You need a new hybrid battery" can be true, or it can be the most expensive, least precise diagnosis out there. The difference comes down to whether someone actually measured cell by cell, or just read the system's generic code.

Cell-level diagnostics vs. a full pack replacement

A hybrid battery has between 20 and 40 cell modules. In most of the cases we see, the real problem is 2 or 3 weak modules — not the whole pack. Measuring each module under load is what finds that difference.

The price comparison: the biggest gap in the market

Between the dealer price and a well-done independent diagnostic/repair, this is the service with the biggest gap of everything we offer — a 60-70% savings is typical when the problem turns out to be specific cells.

When saving money isn't the right call

If the degradation is even across the whole pack or the HV ECU has unrepairable damage, we tell you straight — there's no point repairing something that won't last. We work on the Toyota Prius, Ford Fusion Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid, Lexus CT200h/GS450h/RX400h, and Nissan Leaf.
