Where the water gets in and why it ends up there
On the thirteenth-generation F-150 the Body Control Module — the Smart Junction Box — is mounted vertically at the base of the right A-pillar, at the passenger's feet. Rainwater enters past a degraded windshield seal or through blocked sunroof drain hoses, runs down inside the pillar, and channels itself directly over the module's upper multipin connectors.
Capillary action pulls the moisture into the housing and floods the multilayer board. And here's what makes the difference: the BCM receives a permanent direct 12V battery line, to keep the network on standby and the immobilizer alive. Water plus continuous voltage set off an immediate electrochemical reaction. Copper sulfate — that greenish oxide — physically bridges the pins of the microcircuits and forms a conductive paste that shorts the logic pins against the power stages.

The Smart Junction Box takes the same hit when the cowl drain clogs with leaves and water floods the right kick panel: erratic windows and battery drain.

They share the F-150 architecture and the A-pillar vulnerability. Here the water damage usually also disables the air suspension and keyless entry.
