On a PSA platform the engine computer isn't in charge on its own. The BSI — the body control module living behind the dash — is the node everything runs through: it powers modules, distributes the network, stores the vehicle's configuration and validates the immobilizer code before the engine is allowed to start. That's why a fault that begins in the BSI disguises itself as an engine fault, and why replacing the computer without looking at the BSI fixes the symptom for a week before everything comes back.

What we do is separate the two before anyone spends money. The unit comes out of the vehicle, goes on the bench and is connected to simulators that reproduce crankshaft, injectors, air flow and the dialogue line with the BSI itself. That's where you see what actually failed: a shorted injector driver stage, a burnt voltage regulator, a corrupted memory area, or a BSI with traces eaten by moisture. These are few-dollar components inside units the dealer only knows how to replace whole.

Limp mode on the 1.6 HDi and BlueHDi

The vehicle caps around 3,000 rpm and won't respond to the pedal, typically from a shorted injector driver stage or an out-of-range air flow reading — and it comes back within a few miles of clearing the codes

Electrical symptoms that confirm it

  • The shop's equipment won't communicate with the computer: no response on CAN, and the BSI answers as if the module were no longer in the vehicle
  • Internal codes (P0601, P0605, P062F and neighbors) pointing at the unit's own memory or processor rather than at a sensor

    Component-level repair or cloning

    We replace driver stages, regulators and capacitors and rebuild corroded traces on the original board; when the damage is irreversible we read by Bench or BSL, recalculate the checksum and transfer VIN, mileage and immobilizer PIN to a replacement unit

  4. Step 04

    Pairing, testing and return

    We re-pair computer, BSI and key, run temperature and load cycles, and ship it back with a technical report and installation instructions

Frequently asked questions

How do I know whether the problem is the computer or the BSI?

From the bench test, and only from there with certainty. Both modules produce similar symptoms — active immobilizer, lost communication, scattered faults — and that confusion is exactly what leads to replacing the wrong module. We test both away from the vehicle before saying anything.

Do I have to program new keys after the repair?

No. We preserve VIN, mileage and the immobilizer PIN, and return the unit already paired with your BSI. The keys you have keep working.

My vehicle had water on the carpet. Is that related to the electrical fault?

It is, far more often than people think. Water entering through a blocked windshield drain or a worn door seal ends up where the BSI lives, and the corrosion only shows weeks later. By the time the symptom appears nobody connects the two, but it's one of the most repeated patterns on these platforms.

What if the unit can't be repaired?

We tell you before we proceed and explain the alternative, which is usually cloning to a compatible replacement unit — far cheaper than a new dealer-coded unit, and without the wait to import the part.
